This piece originated from the memory of a painting I saw years ago- or thought I saw. I thought it was called “Swamped” and it featured a figure -seemingly drowned- drooped over the side of a canoe in a cartoonish southern swamp. It was not Peter Doight’s ethereal painting- Which I do like- it looked vaguely like the figure with the red shirt in the center right. I’ve found no evidence of this painting on the internet- perhaps I imagined the whole thing.

The image I had of that piece stuck in my head and fermented up there for quite awhile. When I decided to finally put brush to canvas it rapidly evolved into this very busy painting. There is a preponderance of the number 3 and birds- lots of birds. There are a lot what seem like symbols of death- and dark urges, temptations, triggers and itches.

WOW!! What a complex composition telling so many stories with feel ranging from Brueghel to Japan and back, it’s gorgeous, bravo!!

Danke 🙏 it took a lot longer than I thought it would- as paintings always do- but everything worked out for the best I think 🤔🤗
