Night Breaks In

Detail of an abstract paper mache sculpture by MJ Seal that resembles an iridescent octopus reaching through a wall

A shimmering nocturne reaches through the wall-

“Night Breaks In”- Original sculpture by MJ Seal. Paper ephemera, sackcloth, PVA glue and acrylic, approximately 22” x 24” x 10”. C. 2020

I always strive to make my work look alive and I am quite happy with how this one came out 🤗

It looks interesting resting on the ground as well as reaching out of the wall
The “tentacles” reaching out shimmer with layers of iridescent paints and little Star-like dots.
I like how the frayed edges of the sackcloth resemble little roots spreading out. They are flexible and can kind of move about on their own with a little help from gravity.
I like to reward the observant and there is no shortage of texture and details in this one to do just that.
I made several little “offshoots” to hang around the edges of the main structure- kind of like immature suckers sprouting up around it.
