Morass

Detail of an abstract painting by MJ Seal that resembles a rainbow hued fossil bone bed within a giant green paramecium

I definitely did not envision this-

“Morass”- Original painting by MJ Seal. Acrylic on canvas, 30” x 19”. C. 2020

When I began applying the colors to this it rapidly developed that rainbow-hued effect- it wasn’t what I was originally thinking- but I’m glad it worked out the way it did as I was worried this would end up to Green- it definitely isn’t to green.

I really like using loose, frayed canvas for paintings- the little tendrils of loose thread give it a life all it’s own. plus I don’t fuss over clean edges- since there is no hope of achieving any.
The vibrant rainbow hues tone down the general creepiness of the skeletal forms I think.
Multitudes of eyes peer out from a filmy green underworld
