Inhospitable Form

Detail of an abstract paper mache sculpture by MJ Seal that resembles a primitive white sea creature with black spikes poking out

It took 3 (?) years but this beauté étrange is finally complete. I think it was worth the wait-

“Inhospitable Form/Snowbound Forested Hill “- Original sculpture by MJ Seal. Paper ephemera, PVA glue and acrylic, 16” x 12” x 9”. C. 2020

After the paint and varnish on this dried it was time for a proper photo shoot-

Side view
I like how this piece took on the shape of some primitive sea creature – complete with defensive spikes and grasping pincers
Anterior view. This definitely does not look inviting or friendly
From above
The posterior of this shell-like form. Note the trailing defensive spikes.
Close up showing the delicate transitions from the white ground to the brownish-black spikes- like snow at the base of a tree.
