We are now in an unknown country- a land of gloomy labyrinths, strange marriages and endless games of cat and mouse

I think I heard the term “The Unknown Country” in a Salon (?) article shortly before Inauguration Day last January- it sounded so darkly poetic- and appropriate- it stuck in the back of my mind and just kind of festered in there- constantly being fed on a diet of existential anxieties.

Fast forward several months and we are pretty much where I expected we would be. I was familiar with the goals of Project 2025 long before the election- so- intellectually I understood what was coming. I think- probably starting in June- I began to emotionally understand what was coming.

Where we find ourselves now did not come out of the blue. It’s not quite a new world and it’s not quite an old one. If it feels strangely familiar that’s because it’s always been here- festering just beneath the surface. If you’ve read any science fiction dystopian novels ( and I’ve read a lot) you should easily recognize elements of them in our day to day life now.
