“Jade Mountain”- Original painting by MJ Seal. Acrylic on canvas, 30″ x 42″. C. 2023This piece started out years ago as an anonymous bright pink background. It sat untouched for quite a while until one day I slathered on some paints leftover from various other projects and then wiped it down with rags until some patterns started to emerge. It started to go somewhere- and then it just sat and waited again.I eventually got back to work on it. I was thinking it would turn into one piece- but then as I sat down to work on it- it turned into something else. With the verdant greens and pink background it started to make me think of some cartoonish Chinese landscape painting and I just kind of went with that. It seems to have gradually transformed into perhaps … some allegory of avarice.
