“Eventide “- Original painting by MJ Seal. Acrylic on canvas, 50” x 40”. C. 2022.This Blotograph was the starting point. I started out using thin glazes of color in the larger acrylic version and then decided I hated it – so then I blocked everything in with rich opaque color. It’s a very different working method- like putting a puzzle together. It took forever but then again it’s the first large scale canvas I’ve done in about a year.An aged, yawning face?Luminous innardsAnd innumerable facesA highly stylized nightjar sitting atop a skull like some peculiar toupee An incoming tide or a strange aquamarine tail? Or perhaps a dragons head?
