Sculptures in progress 2/23/18

A paper mache sculpture in progress by MJ Seal that resembles an expanding honeycomb-like structure

My first sculptures in years are slowly coming along-

The piece I intended to become a snowbound, forested hill is evolving into what looks like some primitive sea animal complete with branched “spines” that started out as stylized trees made from twisted pieces of paper soaked in glue water.

Anterior view of this echinoderm-like hill.

Like most of my projects (especially ones where I don’t actually know what I’m doing) these are taking forever. Plus there is a lot of drying time involved.

The “honeycomb” has grown a bit and it’s cells are filled with nuggets of paper mache pulp. It now just needs a few coats of paint and then it will be ready for gilding.
